How to Rank on Google for Your Trade in Your Area

When someone types “electrician Drogheda” into Google, there’s a short list of businesses that show up. The rest are invisible. Getting onto that list isn’t magic. It’s local SEO, and it’s more straightforward than most people make it sound.

Start with Google Business Profile

This is the single most important thing you can do. It’s free, it takes about 30 minutes to set up, and it’s what powers those map results at the top of Google. Fill it out completely, every field. Business name, address, phone number, hours, services, and photos of your actual work. Not stock images.

Get your website right

Your website needs to mention the specific services you offer and the areas you cover. Not just “plumbing services”. Say “emergency plumber in Dundalk” and “boiler installation Drogheda” and “bathroom fitting Louth.” Google matches search terms to page content. If the words aren’t on your site, you won’t show up for them.

Reviews matter. A lot

Google uses reviews as a trust signal. More reviews, higher rating, more visibility. Ask every happy customer to leave a Google review. Make it easy. Send them a direct link. Most people are glad to help if you ask at the right moment, usually right after finishing a job they’re pleased with.

Consistency is key

Your business name, address, and phone number should be exactly the same everywhere: your website, Google Business Profile, social media, and any directories you’re listed on. Google cross-references these. Inconsistencies make it less confident about recommending you.

Local SEO compounds over time. Every review, every blog post, every month your site stays active. It all adds up. The tradespeople who rank well aren’t doing anything clever. They’re just doing the basics, consistently, over months and years.
